Pakistan’s population rose from 135.6 million in 2000 to 240.5 million in 2025, 2.32 percent a year, second only to Nigeria among the ten most populous countries. Over the same years, constant-price PPP GDP per person rose 46 percent in Pakistan, 234 percent in India and 207 percent in Bangladesh. India moved ahead in 2011; Bangladesh in 2015. A council that talks only about births will miss that reversal.
